On August 8, according to the official account of China Wechat, in order to standardize the application of face recognition technology, in accordance with laws and regulations such as the the People's Republic of China Network Security Law, the the People's Republic of China data Security Law, and the the People's Republic of China personal Information Protection Law, the State Internet Information Office has drafted the regulations on the Safety Management of the Application of face Recognition Technology (for trial implementation) (draft for soliciting opinions), which is now open to the public for comments.

The draft clearly states that the use of face recognition technology shall abide by laws and regulations, abide by public order, respect social morality, assume social responsibility, and fulfill the obligation of personal information protection. Face recognition technology shall not be used to engage in activities prohibited by laws and regulations, such as endangering national security, harming public interests, disturbing social order, and infringing upon the legitimate rights and interests of individuals and organizations. In addition, the installation of image collection and personal identification equipment in public places should be necessary to maintain public safety, comply with relevant national regulations, and set up prominent reminders.
